Presentation of the book "Ekaterina Serebryakova" at the Pushkin Museum

Presentation of the book "Ekaterina Serebryakova" at the Pushkin Museum

On 19 December 2013, at the Department of Personal Collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, a presentation was held for the book "Ekaterina Serebryakova" (for the artist’s 100th birthday).

Anastasia Nikolaeva, the founder and chair of the Zinaida Serebryakova Foundation’s Expert Council (and great-granddaughter of Zinaida Serebryakova), and Pavel Pavlinov, author of an article on Ekaterina Serebryakova’s work (and great-grandson of Evgeny Lanceray, Zinaida’s brother), spoke at the presentation.

The presentation was hosted by Marina Loshak, director of the Pushkin Museum.

The museum’s collection includes the famous painting by Zinaida Serebryakova "Katya in Blue by the Christmas Tree", which depicts the artist’s younger daughter; on it that little girl turned 100 years old in June 2013.

Ekaterina Borisovna Serebryakova – daughter of Zinaida Serebryakova – was a graphic artist, painter, and interior designer.

She dedicated her life to preserving the family’s artistic heritage, often remaining in the shadow of her mother’s and brother’s fame.

She was a founding member of the Zinaida Serebryakova Foundation’s Expert Council and, despite her advanced age, actively participated in its research and publishing activities.

In Ekaterina Borisovna’s centenary year, the Foundation published a book about her life and work — the first book dedicated to the artist.

The album section publishes more than 200 of her works for the first time.

The book includes Serebryakova’s memoirs about life in Russia and France, an article by Pavel Pavlinov on her work, a large section of archival materials, and recollections of contemporaries.

The book is published in Russian and French and is part of a series of publications about the artists in the Serebryakov family.

Previously in the series was published "Morocco" (about Zinaida’s Moroccan period); a catalog raisonné of Zinaida’s work and a book dedicated to Alexander Serebryakov are in preparation.
